 Kashmir Conflict

Author Ayesha Irshad Malik

On 3rd June 1947 British Government offered a plan for India and Pakistan and it was also known as the Mountbatten plan. In 3rd June plan the British Government included these principles in Mountbatten plan. British India was divided into two states Hindu states, Hindustan and Muslims states, Pakistan; both countries received the rights of a dominion. Some provinces formed part of Pakistan, and some to be part of Bharat. About 562 states were ruled by princes called Rajas and they were given freedom to consent any to Pakistan or to Bharat, or to remain independent. About more than 500 states consented to Bharat and rest of Pakistan, In Provinces Bengal and Punjab the issue of separation was decided by vote of the governmental assemblies, Partition of the provinces Bengal and Punjab between both countries. Disputes from Muslim-majority areas and disputes from Hindu-majority areas voted separately. According to the plan Muslims majority areas will go to Pakistan and Hindu majority areas will go to Hindustan. North West Pakistan will cover Western Punjab, Sindh, North West Frontier and Baluchistan, and Note East Pakistan will cover Eastern Bengal and Sialkot District of Assam with population of 44 million Muslims. The Hindustan was covering the rest of British India with Population of 225 million.

On August 15, 1948, the British India was announced to be divided into two states Bharat and Pakistan. But Junagarh, Manavader and Kashmir became problems Kashmir is a large state located in the North of Pakistan. According to the Mountbatten plan that was provided by British Indian independence act, Kashmir was free to accede to either India or Pakistan. The Maharaja Hari Singh they Kashmiri local Ruler wanted Kashmir to became independent, but in October 1947 he joined India, as in Kashmir there are Majority of Muslim they were not happy to accede with India. They wanted to accede with Pakistan. Because the Mountbatten plan Kashmiris were free to decide to accede either to Pakistan or to Bharat but Indian forces forcefully entered in Jammu Kashmir, Azad Kashmir forces backed by Pakistan resisted accession. India made an objection to the UNO against Pakistan on January 1949. Through the efforts of UNO in July 1949, both countries signed an agreement a cease-fire took place by UNO and regions became divided. Both countries claim Kashmir in full, but control only parts.  The UNO passed a resolution on 5th January 1949 calling for a free and independent referendum to be conduct under the supports of the United Nation. As a Muslims majority Kashmiris want to get rid from India they want freedom from India but India is not ready to give them freedom, so India has refused to accept any adjudication or negotiation in this problem. That is how Kashmir continues to be disputed territory. The UNO has yet unsuccessful to solve this issue or implement its resolution. Being disappointment with this situation the people of Kashmir started struggle and came out from homes against India for their rights and get freedom from India and accede to Pakistan. India is trying to crush this upsurge and with the help of seven lac army; they killed millions of innocent people from Kashmir, thousands of girls women and children raped by Indian forces in front of their brothers, father and husbands, still people of Kashmir not ready to give up and they are still fighting sacrificing their lives, their beloved for the freedom and independence of their homeland. In simple words India has failed in its aim. The UNO and other super power trying to resolve this problem but it is not looking to fruitful.  A nuclear war between Pakistan and India may bring out people of Kashmir from this situation.
